Well today I found out that Tibiabr.com is working on hosting a Brazilian tibia server. They are already talking with CipSoft and got the requirements for hosting it. Now if tibiabr can provide the things that CipSoft needs there will probably be a Brazilian server. the server will of caurse be located in Brazil instead of the normal USA and German servers.

So what do you think about it?

I can only come up with negative points about this.

1. I will miss the internationality in Tibia, if this start we will soon have servers in all major playing countries and that means no more internation contact between countries and cultures.

2. I really doubt a Brazilian server will stay stable, and will experience heavy DDoS attacks on a daily basis aswell as other problems.

3. If I would be a GM I wouldn't want to even try to GM on that server. Mostly because I doubt many of the players will know any english at all...

4. I will miss my Brazilian friends if they change server! :(

90% of the br's that i've meet ingame know english, so it would be bad if they make an br server for them.
in other hand they can make an pl server since 90% of the pls i've meet cant speak english :)

It'll end up like the last brazilian-hosted server, Tenebra, the host will be too unreliable and the server will get re-located. Hopefully.

There where a brazilian server before and there wasn't any big chances.
The other servers still had our fair share of BRs.

and if any server are going brazilian it's Tenebra, they promised to move it back asap.

btw, they did not create a brazilian server so people can speak portuguese, they created it since it lags awfully lot for BR's since their providers suck.

I think it would be awesome, but not all brs will migrate to this server, the internationality will remain ;p
and if a GM comes and nobody speaks english its their problem... he can ban 'em all
and yeah, I speak decent english

If it's a Brazilian with only brazilian people then I guess they could fix some br GM's to take care of them or something, but as someone said previously, I'd miss the internationality.

If I'm not totally wrong Tenebra and some other server was from the beginning hosted in Brazil but due to lack of stability they were moved to the US(?) So in my opinion, why try something that already failed?

MobyDuck

It wouldn't make any differnce on the game creating a brazilian server, there will keep existing noob brazilians as well as pro brazilians on the others servers.Lag could get lower, but lag will allways be present.

Tenebra, that was founded same day as Galana was based in Brazil. It got moved to the US due to lack of stability and lag problems... That's the only server that has ever been in Brazil...

Some br kid will prob go into that server and make him self owner and destroy the community.

Maverick

A brazilian server would be in no terms different than servers that are currently occupied by a vast majority of brazilian player, only that it would have a reduced latency because CIP is adding a new hardware to avoid their servers being overwhelmed by a DDoS attack, one of the prior reasons of why Tenebra had been moved to the US. I am sure Giovanni (TibiaBR's admin) has enough knowledge about implementing a server, in the time I worked on TibiaBR I could see that Lokirj is no rookie when it comes to that.

But to those people who say that they would love to get rid of Brazilian people.. you people really bring me back memories of 2003-2004 where being a brazilian was diminished and very much an offense. I just hope you guys could broaden up your mind.

I'd say a Brazilian server is a win-win. Let's face it, a lot of Brazilians don't know how to speak proper English (not saying all Norwegians and Swedes do), so they'd have a server of their own where they can communicate in their own language. I'm quite annoyed by people in Trade channel going "sell blue robe msg me ((br only))", but they'd probably move to the Brazilian server as well. I love the internationality of Tibia but I doubt we'd notice much lack of internationality if some thousand south americans moved to a Brazilian server of their own.

And about all BRs being stupid with poor English, that's the biggest load of bullocks I've heard. From what I've experienced most of the ones with poor English are for the most of it younger than 12, which usually equals poor English even if you're English yourself. I'm 17 and I have a bunch of RL friends who would've been taken for "BRs" if they tried to talk in a public channel in Tibia.

I don't have much Brazilian friends, but I know a bunch of other south americans and they're really nice lads with just as good English as mine and probably a tad higher IQ. ;p

I know a few GREAT brasilians who i work on other fansites or on the Game World i play on (Pacera) the thing is most of them have bad rl lives and usualy take revenge on the game like "PA'ing" for example... and trying to be the best e,t,c... but that exists everywhere i guess... just that there a bigger country therefor we critisise them more becauseit's a easyer target. i addmit i hait most of them because there lurers pk's or just bad english but i certanly love some br's! that have awsome english and are freindly! ;)

Well back on topic:
the server would not be good because it would make cipsoft have more work and make the USA servers more "attackable" so let's hope CIP can just have USA and GER to take care of :)

Greldin
12-01-2008, 01:08
Seems like TibiaBR.com would have the responsibility though, so that would give CipSoft perhaps even more time for their own servers. ;)

Daria Sefin
15-01-2008, 22:41
Its a good idea for the Brazilians but many servers would go empty then because most of the Tibian population is Brazilian.

I don't know about this... they tried it and it failed. Plus you wouldn't be able to be a Gm on that server, simply because there might just be 1 GM that speaks the language, if he has something big to handle he just wouldn't be able to. I'm againts it, just adds more problems to the already unstable equation

Tibiabr is going to host servers for cipsoft in the future from what i read once... guess it will be a good project for them considering Tibiabr's Admin is good at servers from what i herd...

Well, if I'm not totaly lost Tenebra was brazilian before. But it became American because the Brazilian hoster had some network problems, since it's hard to get one that workds good in Brazil. I'm not sure about this. It's just what've heard. But I'm 99,9% sure that Tenebra was brazilian in the beginning.

Word to Ambalrith and Maverick, both have stated very good points.

Additionally, it is really sad to see so many people posting statements that are on the border to racism here. I would have thought that the contact with other nations in the game should offer enough opportunity for people to get some enlightenment into their heads, but I guess some people are immune to education. Have you ever thought about what Brazilian or Polish people might think of you? You can't speak Portuguese, nor Polish and as a matter of fact, the people who speak English as native language are the ones least capable of speaking ANY other languages. I really am surprised sometimes how someone like that can seriously complain about others not speaking his language!

Anyways, enough ranting done. On topic: Yes, something like this is being discussed, no it will not change any of the game rules, no it is not decided when or whether it will be done and who will actually host it, yes it all depends on the quality of the provider there.

It is not meant to seperate nationalities. Unfortunately, it is likely that it will partly have such an effect, not necessarily because all the south americans leave the north american servers, but because the north americans would rather not join a south american server because they would finally see how laggy that connection currently is for our south american customers. It is always easy to talk from the perspective of having all luxury, but people have to start thinking of those who do NOT have it too.

The BR server is unstable, laggy.. If we say for an EXAMPLE: Aurea has 96 in Ping.
Calmera (US Server): Calmera has 5045 in Ping for the most.
And a BR server would lay up about 7000~ M/S

You're right, just as both me a Stevie stated. Tenebra was first located in Brasil and I think it was added around august 2005, moved to the US later that year.
